Even as vaccinations provide light at the end of the long tunnel of pandemic, our neighbors' needs continue. Here are our listings for Volunteer Opportunities in January 2021.

The Homer Harris Hub COVID-19 Support Team


Kandelia needs paper grocery bags for student meals and school supplies. Bags can be dropped off Wednesday, 10 am to 4 pm, at the back of Seattle World School, 1700 E. Union St. Seattle, WA 98112

Kandelia is also looking for guitars for an after-school program. New or used guitars would be amazing! Contact Kristi Wong, (425)-954-3476, kristie.wong@kandelia.org

Byrd Barr Place Byrd Barr Place, 722 18th Ave. is looking for a few volunteers to help with Home deliveries on Wednesdays at 9am, and Thursdays at 1pm. This is a fantastic way to help and connect with our neighbors. Contact Brian Yeager, Brian@byrdbarr.place, 206-812-4961.

Backpack Brigade needs two volunteers for packing in the 7:30am-9 shift Thursdays, and one volunteer for packing in the 9am shift Thursdays. Contact: Nichelle Hilton, nichelle@backpackbrigade.org; 206-495-8983.

Home bakers wanted for Community Loaves The Community Loaves project needs home bakers willing to make delicious and nutritious Honey Oat Sandwich bread at home for area food banks. Online instruction for baking the sourdough bread recipe provided. This program was featured recently on the Today Show.

Rainier Valley Food Bank

  • Pack bags and boxes of groceries for home delivery. Location is RVFB warehouse, 4205 Rainier Ave S. Shift timing is posted here.

  • At-Home Sandwich Making (Requires a Food Handlers License for at least one team member): Pick up sandwich-making materials once a week or every other week, prepare sandwiches at home, return them to foodbank for distribution to unhoused community members.
