This update is over 30 days old.

We received the message below from Nichelle Hilton, CEO of Backpack Brigade. Their need for volunteers to help pack and deliver meals will increase starting starting Sept. 8th or 10th. Details below. Please contact Nichelle directly if interested: 206-495-8983;

Message from Nichelle We are in the warm days of summer, hitting the second week of August, but we need to turn our thoughts towards Fall. As some may know, tomorrow should come the official announcement of Seattle Public Schools beginning the school year with all remote learning, til further notice, as it’s now recommended.

With this being such a different year, what’s being asked of us is as well, and we are doing our best to respond. The school district and the district are now asking us to increase our bags even more, to the point of double. (exact details are still in works)

These bags go to the district and are distributed to the 26+ meal sites the school is running for kids in need of food. Our bags (as well as other agencies we pick up) are added every Friday morning for the weekend, and almost every day run out long before the need does.

Now that the supply chain is running smooth (for now) we are seeking to meet the higher bag request, and that’s why I’m emailing you!

More bags= more volunteers!!

We are now working 4 days a week,

Mon-prep; Tuesday-pack; Wed-prep; Thursday-pack and deliver

Our need for packers and drivers will increase and I would love to hear from you if you are able to be a volunteer starting Sept. 8th or 10th, as a packer, or driver.

We have about 4 slots per job, and could really use some help!

Let me know if you are interested, if you want off the list, if you have questions!

We can’t do this work without volunteers- and hope you can join us!

THANK YOU! Nichelle Hilton Executive Director/ CEO of Backpack Brigade “Food finding kids” 206-495-8983
